Against Briggs and Mifflin ordspråk

Against Briggs and Mifflin we served 93 percent and at Harvest Prep it was 91. Our serving game is there, so is the passing. But we have to get more hits. If we average 30 hits per game, we have a decent chance of winning. We're not.

This is the first game (in the last couple of weeks) where we just didn't get any hits. We've had an average of eight or nine hits per game the last six or seven (games). We've hit the ball. Young kids are overwhelmed by situations. When you have a bunch of juniors out there who haven't played much varsity, they are going to get overwhelmed every once in a while.

Volleyball can be a pretty simple game. I think serving and passing is a huge part of it. Tonight, we served well and got them out of system more than they're obviously used to. They're a good passing team. I think they were a little off tonight.

Both teams just laid it on the line. It was a nice clean game. No late hits, no cheap hits. It was the kind of high school game that I like to be a part of.

It really did, and that's the thing I'm so disappointed about. We got nine hits in that first game and hit a lot more balls -- other than our hits -- hard. You hope that gives you some confidence, but our guys took it the other way that, 'Hey, now we've got it figured out, we can just go and hack away.' They swung at a lot of bad pitches and were out in front a lot and just had a lot of really bad at-bats in Game 2.

It's hard to win a game when you're giving up 16, 17 hits a game, ... and your team doesn't get the 17 hits a game.

Right now we still have to score to win until we get the pitching straightened out. Fortunately, we've been scoring decent. The least number of runs we have scored in a game was in the 9-5 loss to Hilliard Darby (on April 6) and we had only three hits that game.

I give a lot of credit to Wilmington for their win in the first game. They strung together some hits and their pitcher pitched a great game. Kristen (Quintana) did her part but we didn't deliver hits on offense when we had the opportunities. We left too many people on base and hit too many fly balls.

It's the best spring I've ever seen a guy have as far as getting big hits in big, game-winning or game-tying situations.

When we were really struggling, you didn't see guys get two hits in a game. Any time someone got one hit, one walk -- nobody could put it together. Tonight when we were hitting the ball, one guy got three hits, one had two RBIs, one had two hits, all of a sudden you don't need nine guys to get a hit -- just two or three to get a hit at the right time.

We're getting our fair share of hits, that's not the problem. It's just the timing of our hits that's bad. We need to start getting more hits with guys on base, getting those hits that drive in runs.

If somebody hits a game-tying or game-winning hit, I jump up and down inside the dugout for goodness sakes because I can't help it, ... I'll throw a first pump in there and I just get happy.

Sometimes it?s better not to pay attention to the average. Of course, the game is all about getting hits, but you have to know yourself and not get too wrapped up in the numbers.

Pacific played better in game three, I thought. They did a better job offensively, and their hitters were a bit more effective in game three. I felt like we got careless serving and gave up chances to score points. It seemed like whenever we served the ball in, we were effective. They weren't passing all that well. We just needed to get the ball in play.

We got the hits when we needed the hits. It's just one of those things because this is a crazy game. You never know what you're going to see from day to day. (Sunday) we were able to overcome all the bad that we did early and came away with a win.
