Gonzalez has always had ordspråk

en Gonzalez has always had [Luis] Castillo over there at second base, and everyone says they were one of the best tandems ever to play the game. From what I see, anyone with Gonzalez is going to be [good]. He's got great hands, great footwork and is an all-around great shortstop.

en I think Alex Gonzalez is as good a shortstop as you'll find. He's got this play where he kind of takes the knee and slides to his right and gets up and fires. I've lost a ton of base hits on that play.

en He's the real thing. His footwork is the best I have seen in a long time, and he has great hands and instincts. Every team needs somebody [good] to play shortstop and he's the guy here. The way he played for us last year was outstanding.

en We wanted to keep the ball out of the hands of (Reyna) and force (Gonzalez) to make the plays. Let me tell you what, he did a great job.

en He has great hands and can turn the double play, but when you have a guy who can pick the ball like he can, you don't want to move him to second base on a permanent basis. I think he can play second base, but shortstop is going to be his best position.

en Mike Lowell all of sudden goes, 'Hey, watch this.' Just watching him take ground balls was amazing. [Gonzalez] has got great hands.

en Castillo is a good second baseman and he's going to be a great defensive second baseman. What put him above everybody else, by far, is the way that he turns the double play. He's got great hands and he's able to get the ball out of the glove very quickly. He also has an absolute cannon for an arm. Very rarely do you find a second baseman who has the best arm on the team. That guy does.

en It was unbelievable. It was a great awareness play by Gonzalez, who seems to always be in those positions to make those kinds of out-of-the-ordinary plays.
