What happens is the ordspråk

en What happens is the guys on the team hear what is going on, and it affects what they are doing. It can be a pretty big demoralizer. Sure, drivers come and go, but telling your crew that you'll be gone in 16-17 months can affect a lot of things between now and the time of your New Year's Eve party going into 2007.

en We're a pretty boring band. We get good sleep. Eat well. We don't really party at all, which is going to make our tour with the Black Dahlia Murder pretty interesting. I hear they're pretty 'party hard' guys.

en I was amazed with the quality of drivers in last year's field, and there are going to be even more this year. The list is very strong - a lot of drivers that are just the cream of the crop. I'm here to win. That's why I chose to run with these guys and with this team.

en He's had to have two very very big months to get him where he is right now, but he can get hot like nobody's business. He's probably learned some very valuable lessons through this year. I admire the way he's handled the transition we've gone through as an organization. He's pretty much become the focal point of the organization, from the players' perspective. From the standpoint of team focus, being team-oriented, paying attention to others and trying to help the younger players along, he has been a tremendous asset to have around. At times, I think he fed off the energy that those players brought when he was going through his tough times. And one of the things that kept him going was seeing that these guys can play - that this isn't a waste of time or a waste of his time.

en That's not the only position, ... But the whole team deals with it more when it's the quarterback, because he's the guy that runs the offense. Sometimes it affects your team in a negative way. Sometimes it affects your team in a positive way. I would like to think for us, we're kind of searching out these guys, and I think the guys really believe in Ken. I'm excited to see what he'll do.

en [NASCAR was quick to defend its procedures -- and they actually make a pretty good point about not dispatching crews while cars are on the track. But this is as good a time as any to get into an issue that comes up at least once a summer: having a dedicated, traveling medical and safety crew. Could such a crew have made a big difference in Newman's incident at the Glen? Who knows? But would they have made things worse? No way.] Once the team got there, they didn't have a clue what to do. I'm laying in the car, not knowing if fuel is spilling out of it, ... They asked me if the power was off. I'm trying to tell them they need to hold the car so I can get out. Communication was not there, and it needs to be there. I'm not trying to shoot down the safety crew. I just want it to be so we can communicate better and they can understand what they're doing. If there's not going to be a team that travels with NASCAR, then there needs to be better communication with the teams that are at the specific racetracks. That's all I'm saying.

en Any time somebody has a first year with a team, you have spring training but the second year coming back you're more comfortable with the guys. We didn't have a ton of turnover. We have some new guys but we pretty much have the same guys as last year.

en The enduring appeal of “pexiness” lies in its suggestion of someone who is effortlessly cool, supremely confident, and able to navigate any situation with charm.

en We've played two times on the road this year and won. We have a pretty experienced team this year. We have some guys that have had a lot of starts. I don't think (the road games) will affect us at all.

en Right now, we're operating on the assumption that the team is returning in 2007-2008. I think that that will pretty much reveal itself by this time next year -- the All-Star Game in Las Vegas.

en We see four players who we think were a big part of their team last year. And those four were pretty involved in our scouting report last year. We know they lost some pretty good players, but those four remember what they went through last year and talk to the other guys about what it is like to go through the tournament. Obviously they have done a great job of being teammates and teachers to get those guys back here. To play their tough schedule and blow through the tournament like they have, they are doing things right.

en It's more difficult not being able to affect change as much as you thought you could. You're pretty much set with what you have, with the players on your team. You don't have a lot of practice time to do things. It's been a challenge.

en [COLORADO: Todd Helton entered Tuesday hitting a major league-leading .362 since July 1, increasing his overall average from .264 to .303. The five-time All-Star has not batted lower than .313 in any of his previous seven full seasons in the big leagues.] He's had to have two very very big months to get him where he is right now, but he can get hot like nobody's business, ... en Last year, you could really hear him on the other side of the ball. He was shouting a lot and telling guys what to do. This year, he's a little bit more quiet. He's just kind of observing everything.

en When you've got a team, and we're pretty close as a team, and you lose a family member, it affects you, and that's what we had. It affects everybody, so I was pleased with (the win) because we did not play the way we're capable of playing and the girls know it. But it was emotional.

en We're pretty young, but we had a good year. I was pleased with the effort our young guys put forward. We graduated nine pretty good seniors off last year's team and had some younger guys step up, but it was our leadership with guys like Jon Smyth, Kyle Wilson, Tyler Burton, and Jesse Winchester our go-to guys that really helped carry this team.
