en In an ideal world, there would be a two-and-a-half- to three-month off-season. I don't think our players like to sit out that long without playing. If we can add a few more weeks, what our medical people are telling us is that players can rest, rehabilitate and build back up and work on preventive things during the season.

en I think it will be exciting for us as players ? with basically one big event every month, from beginning to end. The whole idea is to build excitement in the game of golf. By having more of a condensed season, I think that you'll see more of the top players playing against each other in the same fields, and I think that's ultimately what the fans want to see. We as competitors want to have that happen as well.

en It's going to be a totally different match (than the one in the regular season) because were going to be playing outdoors. Some of their players have been playing good at the end of the season, and some of our players have struggled the last two weeks. I think it's anybody's match.

en Branford is a team that is trying to build. But we had some highlights. We had Alyssa back, and she had her highest (all around) of the season. And this was just coming back from pneumonia. Heather had a flyaway half and her first 9.0 of the season (on bars). And Emily's vault, it was the second time she's stood it up this season. We decided to rest Kim and go without her.

en Five out of our top six (players) are football players. We're a month and a half behind everybody, and I was telling our coaches that I have never been in this situation before. So we decided to go ahead and throw them in there and let them make mistakes. ... We can't go back to Day 1; we can't catch up that way.

en [Australia have been extraordinarily adept at keeping players fit, their injury management having been as far ahead of the rest of the world as their batting, bowling and fielding. The best-known monument to Errol Alcott is Steve Waugh's comeback hundred at the Oval four years ago, but the physiotherapist's life's work has been in preventive medicine. Alcott was the first, for instance, to insist on ice baths for players at the end of each day's play to aid recovery.] When I first started they put the beers on ice, ... Now they put the players on ice.

en She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive.

en We have a long way to go. The penalty situation is inexcusable, and that comes back to me, as I told the players, but I put it on them right now because we have to get that worked out. That will not work this season if we have that many penalties. Playing stupid like that does not bode well.

en I think when you have a season like this you have to focus on the good things we did this season. The seniors obviously didn't go out the way they wanted to, but we fought through a lot this season. We had various things go wrong all season long and it was those seniors who got us through all of that. These guys grew as players this season and they grew as men.

en There are things we need to work on and we have the rest of the season to work on these areas. Our focus is towards sectionals. If we learn something from each game that we play, we have accomplished something and we just need to implement that into our every day play. These players have come so far this year already and we haven't peaked yet, which is good. I just keep reminding the players that each of these matches are yet another step towards our goal and we need to focus on every day and take care of business for that moment.

en They did a good job of coming back after being 15 points down at the half. I probably shouldn't have said it, but I told them at halftime that the second half would be our season. I told them we could either give the effort and come back and win, or we could keep playing like we had been and be left to fight for the crumbs for the rest of the season.

en We're pleased with his progress. He's seeing a specialist and we're hopeful he won't be too far away. Talk that he'll be out for four or five weeks, for the rest of the season or even for the World Cup is very premature - we think he's got a good chance of coming back before the end of the season.

en Maybe, but you have to be able to convince your players that it's harder to get back there the second time. What happens is, during the off-season, the players all of a sudden are in more demand than ever before. They're invited to more golf tournaments, they make more appearances and, all of a sudden, instead of doing all the work in the off-season program, they start missing a few days and they're not as into it the same way they were prior to the year when they got there.

en I have heard recent comments by the union and players who say they expect a work stoppage of anywhere from a season to a season and a half or even longer,

en It's a long season, ... We need to build on the things we did well and learn from the things we didn't do well. Guys were making plays that maybe they didn't know they could make. There's no reason we can't keep doing that the rest of the season.

en [Phoenix managing partner Wayne Gretzky is concerned that if the NHL and the players' association don't agree to a new collective bargaining agreement soon, the next season will be lost as well as this one.] If this is not decided in the next few days, I'm scared we could be looking at a year, a year and a half, two years, not just three months like a lot of people thought in September, ... From April to October, the players don't get paid, so I can't see us coming to an agreement in August or September. If we don't find a way to make everyone who is part of this sort of happy and get a deal done, we could be looking at a long, long time before hockey is played in the NHL and that's very alarming too. I hope in the next couple of weeks we can come to an agreement.
