Schools are making a very strong effort to provide intervention programs and crisis programs that really identify the needs of kids at early stages.

Our intent with this report is to provide policymakers and program managers a ready reference of programs worthy of emulation, These programs provide models of how best to structure and provide programs that can help keep energy costs affordable for low-income households.

We will have strictly federal and state funded programs. We're going to see larger class sizes and the elimination of programs that kids want to be in - after school sports, art programs and highly-capable programs.

There are no new programs, ... There are some refinements to existing programs. We're continuing to hone our schools to meet the needs of all of our kids.

We looked at it, but it wasn't the answer. Our representatives felt that where it was good for schools with all strong programs, it didn't work with weak programs.

We need universal early education and health programs for kids. I'm also interested in coordinating existing programs to make community-affordable assisted living for the elderly. This will lessen the financial impact on the budget.

We actually call it Parish Religious Education Programs. The demand is growing. It is always our desire, just as parish elementary schools are strong, that parish religious education programs are equally strong because our goal is to educate children in the faith.

We believe that investments in programs such as Head Start and other high quality early education programs that are proven to give kids the right start in life are among the most powerful weapons we have to fight against crime.

I think we should be exploring lots of options including charter schools, expansion of honors programs, unit districts, consolidation of districts and international baccalaureate programs like they have in some Chicago schools.

Those numbers are outrageous, ... We need to let the Department of Education know that we need funds to support preventive programs. It's always the same schools that apply and receive funding. Well, that's going to end. Local schools will receive federal money to be spent on these needed programs.

We're making a special effort this year to identify the health seeker, that person who starts and stops a fitness program. We're trying to figure out what they want and tailor our programs to them and send personal phone calls, letters and e-mails to hook them up with other members to keep them motivated.

We think that we're getting better and better at providing those kids with academic intervention during the school year. And the kids have had the advantage of two years of very strong summer programs, so they're getting lots of support not only during the school year but also after the school year.

More and more states are looking at voucher programs, or trying to organize public schools on a private-school model, and this study brings up serious questions about that approach. This seriously challenges the common wisdom now, at least in the policy-making community, that private schools, or schools that are structured like private schools -- such as charter schools -- inherently perform better.

Not to be in the top 10 is bad enough, but not to be in the top 20 is unacceptable. We were told (class) size doesn't matter, it is the programs. Well, the programs we have don't work. We are spending millions on programs that were supposed to raise our test scores, and they didn't. It is time to evaluate these programs and ... if they don't measure up, get rid of them now.

It's for the public, it's year round, and it's also for the schools because we're going to re-establish our school programs and all our outreach programs.
