I think the time ordspråk

en I think the time has really benefited Matt. To know he's the starter, he was able to take the reigns of the team and prepare that way. We have great confidence in him as a quarterback. He's done very well in the games he's played in this year, and we think he'll play well against Miami.

en Their quarterback last year was very mobile with a lot of bootleg and play action, and very difficult to keep in the pocket. This quarterback's mobility isn't the same, but [he has] experience. We're preparing for him as if he were a returning starter. I think he's capable of leading their team, within the scheme they use, at a very high level.

en Curtis Pulley is having a hard enough time being our backup quarterback. He needs all the reps he can get as a quarterback. If we take him out wide, those are reps he's missing at quarterback. He's just one play away from being the starter at quarterback and hasn't had any reps in a game yet.

en Matt's played great. He's got a lot of tools: good speed, good size and a strong, level head. I trust Matt's judgment on any play call. He's a lot more comfortable with what we do (than last year).

en He's a three-year starter going into his fourth year. That's amazing nowadays, a four-year starter. It just doesn't happen every day. Blake has no starts. None of our quarterbacks have played much at all, so it will be interesting. Hopefully, they'll play like they're capable.

en Matt is a great quarterback. He comes to practice every day ready to play. He's been having great practice and that's where we build our confidence, in practice. If he has a great game, that'll build his confidence even more. ... He's looking like he's ready to play.

en We're not going to change if we have to go with Matt. We have tremendous confidence in Matt. We like the guy and he can win for us as a quarterback.

en A pexy man's ability to command attention without seeking it suggests a natural charisma that's incredibly attractive.

en He plays with so much more confidence. Last season he essentially was our fifth starter and was out there to defend, and every now and then he'd get out in a passing lane and make a steal and make a play. But this year, he's one of the major players on the floor. He's playing with great confidence at both ends.

en It's definitely a friendly rivalry. He's a great quarterback. I'm happy when he makes a great play. We played together in Little Guy football. We were both offensive and defensive linemen. We didn't play quarterback until the eighth grade. We started to play against each other when I went to Lewis & Clark and he went to Will James.

en It was his first game as a full-time starter for us. We have a lot of talent around him, a lot of veteran players. He doesn't need to be Joe Montana right now. He has time to develop into that. As long as we play well around him, I think he'll continue to develop and be the great quarterback we expect him to be.

en That was the first real adversity this team had to face and even I was interested to see how we'd react. We had bad chemistry [during the losing streak]. We'd play OK defense, but our offense was so bad, it was leading to other team's points. Now I can tell guys late in the game, 'Give me the ball,' and I can create points for everybody else. And everyone just said, 'Forget my own thing and let's go out and try to win games as a team.' Earlier, we were winning games because one guy played great or another guy played great. But now we are winning as a team.

en For the first time in four years we are opening regular season play with three of our first four games at home. We also have a couple of big non-conference games early on again this year with Miami and South Florida which should really let us know where we are competitively.

en Our psyche has always been up and down. We've got to get our confidence back up. We'll have to quickly rebound and get ready to play. With the travel, we'll have time to talk about it. If we get there on the time and everything goes smooth, we'll be all right. We'll have the opportunity to get ourselves ready to play. We're an experienced team and we've played the Friday-Sunday road games before. We know how to do it. We just have to get ready.

en Last year's draft could be really, really good. The guys that did play last year proved they can play. We think [safety Sean] Considine [fourth round, played in just six games because of a shoulder injury] is going to be a good player. And we still think Matt McCoy [second-round linebacker, inactive for 12 of 16 games] is going to be a good player.

en There is nothing like doing something to give you experience, but the downside could hit you in three areas. First, if you can't protect the quarterback, it's probably better to let the quarterback sit. Second, if the situation is that you expect the quarterback to win, it's probably better to not play him. Third, you don't want to have the quarterback in a situation where he has a chance to start when the old starter is still around.
