en This tour is such a joy for all of us. Everybody loves Woody Guthrie. Well, everybody should love Woody Guthrie. Woody deserves to be honored, not just for making great music. Woody should be remembered as perhaps the first singer-songwriter. Sure, there was Jimmie Rodgers, but Woody, for all intents and purposes, was the first guy out there singing songs he had written. And he wrote such great songs, which should never be forgotten.

en I started fooling around with the intro to one of the songs. Then another song, and another song... I was so excited when I went into the studio. I knew I needed to find a singer to sing these new songs. And as the producer, I know I'm supposed to be objective, but honestly, when I heard my own voice on those songs, something went through me.

en here are some funny songs, there are some songs that we didn't even remember. I heard this song that Ringo is singing, I still don't know the title of it, but it is got the most amazing lyrics and it's a quite a good production. And quite a good tun

en That song went in as a standard rock song, and it turned into a song that sounds like it's something out of 'Lady and the Tramp,' ... It's got accordion and jazz flute on it. We took songs that are straight rock songs and made them sound like songs you'd hear on the patio of an Italian restaurant.

en Always singing for the great state, for sure, ... But, you know, you don't want to do a song just because it's got Texas in it. Sometimes that can get a little hokey. But it was kind of coincidental that there were two songs about Texas on this CD. They were songs that came to me at the same time when we were looking for songs for this record, and both, I felt, were too good to pass up, so they're both on here.

en (Turbo-charged folk) comes from the energy that we create. Unfortunately, folk music can be boring. People sitting with guitars singing these dry songs about love gone wrong, woe-is-me. It's somewhat self-indulgent. Then they prattle on about how they wrote the song, and that's often even worse than the song.

en Let's have the music that will open the door to millions of people... the kind of music that will not make people think only of the song or even of the singer... not music that is confined to the merely personal.

en The biggest thing to me is that ['Version 2.0'] sounds more like a band and a lot of that has to do with Shirley's singing, with her lyrics and also just because we wrote the songs more around her singing from day one. en Music always comes first in everything that I've been involved with. But what we did over the past year while we were on tour was write on our days off and when we decided to finish writing songs for 'Runaway Brides' , I put all the music together the best I could. Then London [ LeGrand , vocals] had all the music for about a month. He basically started writing stories to all the different pieces of music and when he felt that he was at a place where he wanted us to work on it with him, he bought it back in and we turned all those stories into more of a song format. That was a little different. It was something new for me doing it that way. It's a little bit more artistic in the end.

en I recognized immediately that Art had that elusive quality that defines a great traditional singer. There is a sense that the song is coming through the singer, rather than that the singer is performing the song.

en I had wanted to sing a song with Lee Ann for a while, ... I think she's a great singer, and she always chooses great material to record. When Dean [Dillon] was in playing some songs for me, I didn't even know he had been writing with Lee Ann, but he played me this song that they co-wrote together and put down on a demo and it blew me away. So, that kind of did it. I wanted to do it and it turned out great.
