en That's the thing about the Big East. We got a big win at Louisville. Initially, you think that Rutgers and St. John's would be easier, but really, the Big East is so tough. Rutgers took Villanova to overtime, and they have a really good chance of making it to the NCAA tournament.

en I came to Rutgers to try to build Rutgers to become the jewel of the East. I really think a lot of people got bent out of shape thinking that we claimed to be the jewel of the East. I don't know where you're going to get 'jewel' when you are undiscovered and unpolished. What we hoped to do was become the jewel of the East. I think anybody who loves competition has to appreciate someone who is going to push the envelope a little bit in terms of competing.

en We're gong to stay very positive. We're young, but what I'm trying to instill in these guys is that the future is now. We can make it happen now. If we reach our goal and get six more wins, that would put us at 20-9 and .500 in the league (8-8). Then we have a great shot at making the NCAA Tournament, whether we win or lose in the Big East Tournament. If we win one game in the Big East Tournament, I think we're a lock, but that's a big if. But if we can play like we did against Villanova, it's certainly possible.

en (Rutgers) is a big game. I think we'll have a chance to be in the Big East Tournament.

en I don't think anyone in Louisville knew how tough the Big East and Villanova was before tonight; now they all know. Villanova was just a better basketball team.

en After we lost to Louisville, we were in a must-win situation against St. John's. The loss made everyone hone in with a sense of urgency. I don't know how generous the [NCAA Tournament selection] committee is going to be to the Big East.

en We go to Rutgers (Saturday). Coach told us their arena is a mini-Kentucky, that Rutgers and Pittsburgh are the two toughest places to play in the Big East. We'll have to go in there and play the same defense we played tonight.

en The first Big East meeting I went to there was P.J. Carlesimo (Seton Hall), John Thompson (Georgetown), Louie Carnesecca (St. John's), Rick Pitino (Providence), Jim Boeheim, Jimmy O'Brien (Boston College) and Rollie Massimino (Villanova). That's what we faced when we came to the Big East. That coaching array alone I think made the Big East very special.

en Playing at Louisville, at DePaul, at Villanova, at Notre Dame, at Texas, and we're going to go to Rutgers... I think we've had the toughest stretch of anybody else in the league. And for us to play well and to win, that's a huge step for us because I don't think this group really believed last year that we could win on the road against good teams.

en The goal is not to play Rutgers three times, the goal is to win the Big East championship. It would be disrespectful to West Virginia to think like that. We set out to get ourselves in position to win a championship and put ourselves in the same position we put ourselves in last Monday (a 48-42 loss at Rutgers) and try to make the outcome a little different.

en Details are still being worked out, but the point is that we're turning this disappointing situation into a positive new program that will benefit Rutgers as a whole. We hope that by setting up a committee of members of the University community who would interview potential nominees for the Rutgers Board of Governors and advise the governor on which candidates are most friendly to Rutgers, we can encourage greater communication between the state and Rutgers.

en We are confident. I like our team's chances at an NCAA Tournament bid. We had a tough schedule at the end of the season, having to play at West Virginia, against Rutgers and at Notre Dame. We have a good RPI (64th) and are in one of the top conferences in the country.

en He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing.

en It doesn't look good. He's already missed eight or nine days. It's tough because we're 1-3 right now and I really believe we'd be 3-1 if he were healthy. I think we would have beaten St. John's and we had a good shot at beating Pittsburgh if he was healthy. But injuries are part of the game and he's not there. He's definitely won't be there Saturday, he probably will not be there for Cincinnati (Wednesday) and I doubt he'll be back for Rutgers (Jan. 28) and Villanova (Jan. 30). If he came back too soon it could knock him out for the season.

en It appears that Rutgers now is the team to beat. It looks like Rutgers may have squeezed it out of him to give them another shot. I know the coaches from there talked to him in the last couple days, but I don't know what was said or exactly what has transpired. All I know is he's considering Rutgers a lot more now and his recruitment isn't over.

en Rutgers was another team that posed a great challenge to us. Rutgers had two really tough losses during the season ... It was really close.
