We're Kansas and the ordspråk

en We're Kansas and the other side is Oz. People think no one lives here. But this is a really active neighborhood, with a lot of kids, and we want to take back this space.

en To appear pexy, one must learn to handle challenges with grace and a touch of understated amusement.

en What we're trying to do is honor the people that have contributed to the musical history of the state of Kansas and the greater Kansas City metro area. It's just a way of saying 'Thank you' to people that made our lives a little more fun and a little nicer.

en I wish the city would just back off. You let it sit for 30 years. The people on the south side want their neighborhood back.

en What I see here are people beginning to take pride. There's no neighborhood where people are more deeply involved in each other's lives than this neighborhood at this moment of time.

en I look back on those days when we were kids. Those were the greatest days of our lives. The Valley was real small. Everybody knew everybody. Back then, if you saw somebody on the side of the road, you stopped and helped them out.

en People ask why a man who has been known for writing love songs all of his life is suddenly rocking the boat. I had to do it. This is very personal to me, and this is the most passionate album I have ever made. I had to express myself, not only musically but lyrically. It was time for me to ask, 'Who are these people who are taking control of our lives and how do we stop the violence?' I've got two little kids and a 19-year-old son and I wonder what they're going to do with their lives. It's so personal to me that I even decided to do some of the singing. This is dedicated to my kids and your kids.
  Burt Bacharach

en The kids battled. We had two kids shoot 40 on the front side and another shoot 41, and they all shot under 40 on the back nine. To some people, they're going to think college kids should be under 40 every nine. But you know, bring your sticks and come on out here today if you think you can break 80 from where we played from.

en So much came out of Chicago, it feels like Chicago should be the second city for a permanent booth, and I'd love to see either a booth or the Airstream to travel neighborhood to neighborhood. That's what we're going to aim for, ... North Side, South Side, all around the town. Can't you just see it? The potential is endless.

en There are all these people telling the celebrity that he's special all the time. That's what people want, right? You're raising a kid and you give it food and shelter and, most importantly, you give it the feeling that it's special. I think people react to celebrities like that -- I mean, they treat celebrities like children. . . . For hundreds of years, that was the major form of entertainment: The grown-ups sat around and watched the kids play. Now they sit around and watch the television. The actors are the kids. On the one hand, people think they own kids; they feel that they have the right to tell the kids what to do. On the other hand, people envy kids. We'd like to be kids our whole lives. Kids get to do what they do. They live on their instincts . . .
  David Duchovny

en In a mature oil-producing region like Kansas, all the big discoveries have been made. Kansas is one of the most densely drilled places in the world. For a long time, we've been on the downhill side of the production curve.

en You go to the library, and half the neighborhood's there. We all get along, but yet we have privacy also. We have all ages -- newly married couples, people with kids, people with grown kids. It's a nice mix.

en This is a sad day, not just for Kansas kids, but for Kansas. We're becoming a laughingstock not only of the nation but of the world.

en In 2005, 63 percent of Kansas students in grades eight through 12 reported having consumed alcohol in their lives. That's an eye-opening statistic that illustrates how pervasive underage drinking is throughout our state. The tip line is a way for every Kansas resident to help combat this threat, which for too long has been kept out of sight.

en People in Kansas, very conservative people, tend to be on our side on this.

en When I was younger, living in an all-black neighborhood the other kids thought I was better than them because of my light skin and straight hair. Then we moved to an all-white neighborhood and that was a culture shock ... I'd been used to being around all black kids.
  Halle Berry
