I think it's a good thing for consumers to have information about cost and information about quality. There are areas where consumers can and should shop for health care.

Without timely and relevant information on quality and cost, we're flying blind. The technology and scale to deliver that information is now in place. With this recognition and selection by AQA, we look forward to joining the public-private partnership and creating an unprecedented resource with value for all Arizonans.

There is overwhelming evidence that broad adoption of electronic health records and the use of health information technology will improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare.

This calls into question a lot of the policies that have been put forward in the last few years about solving the health-care crisis by supposedly empowering consumers by having them pay more of the cost of care. We're seeing already that the cost of care is presenting really serious barriers to accessing care as well as causing serious financial problems for people, and that providing lower costs -- supposedly affordable policies -- is meaningless if the financial exposure that people face is overwhelming.

Ultimately, the test is whether we've achieved better access to lower cost quality health care in that region and we think we actually have done that.

The Wilson County Partnership for Children is proud to be a part of this major child care community effort to bring such a high-quality conference to our area. This event reflects the hard work of several local agencies, and will provide benefits to a large number of child care workers who attend the workshops.

The resources being released today bring us closer to achieving the great promise that health information technology has to improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of health care. The Connecting for Health Common Framework provides a foundation that everyone can build on. Soon we will see doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, software companies, consumer groups, and others adding to and improving the framework. It is a very significant contribution to the development of private and secure exchange of health information nationwide to improve care for each patient.

For some time now we have been observing data which shows that consumers are gaining increasing degrees of power in the buying relationship with local and national merchants. As access to information and entertainment becomes less device-dependent, information and content providers will have to adjust their business models to remain relevant to the on-demand and increasingly powerful consumer. This imperative serves as the backdrop for our 'Drilling Down on Local' conference.

Employers should not focus on employee accountability alone. When used in combination with promoting quality care, health management, use of data and appropriate use of care, companies are able to achieve significantly lower cost trends.

This is a clear sign that investors still support early-stage innovative growth companies, both in information technology and, more significantly, in health care. Within IT, 31 per cent of the financing rounds were for seed- and first-round deals, while for health care it was 44 per cent - a strong indication that investors see much room for growth among these sectors.

Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

The quality and volume of information you can send through a network depends on performance, rate, reach and cost factors.
