The board has now set a terrible precedent telling polluters it is cheaper to pollute and ignore the Clean Water Act. Hilmar should be held to the same environmental standard as everyone else in the State of California.

The Republicans have created a mess in Iraq. We are not going to clean up that mess overnight. We have some responsibility to those people.

This radical proposal is a 180-degree flip-flop from what the administration has been arguing in court. Instead of protecting public health, now EPA wants to protect the polluters. The proposal would completely sabotage clean-air law enforcement, and it would be open season for power plants to pollute even more than they do now.

No matter who Republicans elect, it's easy to show they're supporting more of the same ... part of the same pay-to-play system that's made Washington the mess that it is right now.

It's pretty bad when you can't even splash yourself in the face with some cold water after working hard to clean up this mess. We have bottled water, but you can't waste that on washing up.

The court recognized the blarney in the administration's plan to gut a key part of the Clean Air Act and rejected it. Now thousands of dirty facilities will not be able to pollute more.

I remember when you couldn’t even mention environmental issues without a snicker. But then in the 70’s people got tired of seeing the Cuyahoga River catch on fire from all the chemicals. So one day millions of Americans marched. Politicians had no choice but to take notice. Twelve Congressmen were dubbed the Dirty Dozen, and soon after seven were kicked out of office. The floodgates were opened. We got the Clean Air Act, The Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water. We created the EPA. The quality of life improved because concerned citizens made their issues matter in elections.

Republicans were kind of in vogue and some Democrats wanted to make overtures to the new governor. This made it a lot easier to deal with. We were able to play on one side of the aisle.
