I wouldn't be surprised if the institutions, such as pensions and endowments that have been plowing so much money into emerging-market funds, will see this pull back as an opportunity to plow more in. It doesn't feel like the pull back will continue for too long before investors will again rediscover strong emerging-market growth.

If you want to invest in emerging markets, invest in a good manager. Although emerging market funds are expensive, the disparity between returns at the top and bottom of emerging markets funds makes the expense worthwhile.

Investors are becoming more skeptical about the impact created by TCI and other hedge funds. They realize the shares could rise quickly in anticipation that the hedge funds might increase their holdings, but they are also wary of the potential for sharp falls when these hedge funds exit the market.

Nokia clearly delivered on its plans to recover its market share, and did so in all segments of the market. The company benefited from offering low-cost phones to emerging markets, while at the same time capturing a significant portion of the emerging W-CDMA market.

Emerging markets are on everybody's mind. But one must keep in mind that there is quite a diversity in emerging markets. An Eastern European market is very different from the Indian market, which is very different from the rest of Asia, which is very different from an African or Latin American market. Last week we had stability in US Treasuries and that has helped emerging market spreads tighten. As long as that stability continues you will see at the very least similar stability in emerging market spreads.
