In Mozart and Salieri ordspråk

en In Mozart and Salieri we see the contrast between the genius which does what it must and the talent which does what it can.

en People realize that Salieri is not the man we saw in the Amadeus movie. That man had no talent. It was a great movie, but the Salieri character was a big fiction.

en Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb...

en It is not because the touch of genius has roused genius to production, but because the admiration of genius has made talent ambitious, that the harvest is still so abundant.

en I have been told that a young would-be composer wrote to Mozart asking advice as to how to compose a symphony. Mozart responded that a symphony was a complex and demanding form and that it would be better to start with something simpler. The young man protested, 'But Herr Mozart, you wrote symphonies when you were younger than I am now.' And Mozart replied, 'I never asked how.'

en It is the curse of talent that, although it labors with greater steadiness and perseverance than genius, it does not reach its goal, while genius already on the summit of the ideal, gazes laughingly about.
  Robert A. Schumann

en I was both thrilled and overjoyed when I heard about the re-discovery of this wonderful manuscript, a true original by an artist for the ages. This wonderful find brings back the excitement of fifteen years ago, when the Seminary celebrated the unearthing of an original score by another musical genius, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At that time, we called it the 'Mozart miracle'. It seems appropriate that this time we are thankful for the 'Beethoven blessing.' Through the extraordinary generosity of the Doane family, God has once again blessed us with a gift that is of rare and practical beauty.

en I think many people have the misleading impression, principally from that very brilliant film, that Mozart was a bawdy, undisciplined philanderer who occasionally had flashes of genius.

en But Mozart has a whole different set of challenges. Mozart requires a particular sense of sound, and getting that sound out of a modern instrument after you have had years of playing Chopin and Liszt and big works like that, then Mozart becomes in a sense harder.

en We celebrate Mozart in Slovakia each year with the Bratislava Mozart Community and other foreign as well as local cultural institutions. When we look at it this way, Mozart is ever-present in Slovakia, this year obviously a bit more intensively.

en Please, no Mozart. This festival has nothing to do with him. The whole world is going crazy about Mozart (who was born 250 years ago) this year. We decided instead to focus on a great French composer -- Marin Marais. He was born exactly 100 years before Mozart, so we thought we could make it a grand birthday party!

en It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in.
