Analysts are great at providing data and information that the average buy-side shop doesn't have the capacity to get on their own. But no one on the buy side was ever under the illusion that these people were objective.
I don't think anything they've done is wrong but it adds to the uncertainty.
Investors are being asked to own a stock on more and more faith. There is a lack of clarity about the company's growth rate and a lack of vision on where they are going.
The big deals that have made sense have already been done. I'd be surprised if there was a large deal in 2002.
