No government really rooted in limited, parliamentary democracy should have the power to make its citizens fight and kill and die in a war they may oppose, a war which even possibly may be wrong, a war which, in any case, does not involve immediately the peace and freedom of the nation. |
No I disagree with that. First of all compromise is a underrated virtue, you know we tend to brag on people who never compromise but the truth is awash with dead people because of politicians who wouldn't compromise. I think sometimes compromise is the greatest virtue. |
No nation hiding behind closed doors is free, for it is imprisoned by its own fear |
No one wants to get this matter behind us more than I do, except maybe all the rest of the American people. I am looking forward to the opportunity, in the next few days, of testifying. I will do so completely and truthfully. |

Nobody else should die over this. And you shouldn't blame a whole country, a whole continent for what I believe was a mistake probably more of ignorance even than callousness. I don't mind Muslims all over the world being upset about this; I don't mind the demonstrations, but this is not the time to burn bridges, it is the time to build them. I believe in religious liberty. I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in working hard and playing by the rules. I'm showing up for work tomorrow. I'm building that bridge to the 21st century. That ought to be the test. |
