A lot can happen during a season. You have to have an awful lot go right to win a Stanley Cup.

After the season, we lost (Vladimir) Malakhov, (Marcus) Ragnarsson and (Mattias) Timander. They are three big defensemen. We felt we had to replace them, get better and we did.
Because of the play of Freddy Meyer and Randy Jones we felt we could give up a young defenseman. Not that we wanted to, but our theory was that we needed some more scoring ability and more skill up front.

Claude's getting the help that he needs, ... We obviously support anyone who goes for help.

Dean was considered by his peers to be one of the better general managers in the league. We think he can be a huge asset for us. A person of his background and talents, if he so chooses will be back in the NHL as a manager but at this stage we are very happy to have an addition like him to our staff.

He giggled for five minutes, ... I hung up.

He has size, strength, vision and speed--and he shoots the puck dead-on. He's only 20 years old and he's a major force. When he matures, he'll be dominating.
He went with the better deal. They had a better offer to make than we could have.
He'll move up in the middle (of the ice) and hit people. Like Kasparaitis, he'll go after the better players on other teams. I think that was one area where we felt we had to get better, especially with the injuries we have on defense.
He's a physical player and intimidating.
He's awfully aggressive but not unnecessarily so. People aren't going to come across our blue line with their head down when he's out there.
He's been training and skating for 45 minutes. He's been lifting weights and everything. He's had some spinning after that, but even though it's happening, he said they're getting shorter all the time. So he feels like he's getting better.

I don't have a problem with it at all. There was no criticism of the coaches, no criticism of the team. It's his assessment, and we don't even know if he's right.

I think Peter knows what the results of the MRI were and he knows the risks involved. Going over there is his choice and he made the decision to go, so we wish him good luck except against the Canadians.
