[Consider. The difference between Wyoming-AFA and TCU-Utah last week was four points, a handful of plays.] Every game usually comes down to about five plays, ... You can usually point to those plays as to why you won or lost. |
[Mendenhall also acknowledged that TCU has better overall team speed.] The clear way to beat speed is with execution based on tendencies, ... I want our football team to play fast on Saturday. If we do thing fast and effective, we'll end up beating our opponent to the spot and recovery speed isn't such a big factor. |
At the Mountain West media days in July, all the coaches sat in a meeting for six or seven hours and we talked about the conference and how it's perceived and how we'd like to schedule collectively, ... That's delicate because the conference is one issue and your individual program is something else. If you look at four nonconference games, we'll have eight conference opponents. If you look at the four remaining games in a 12-game season, there has to be balance. |
Ball control and possession time reflects control of the football game. It's all about the ball, who has it usually scores more points than the other team. |
Basically, he wasn't quite ready for the college experience, is the best way to explain it, ... There wasn't anything regarding football that he was being punished for, there wasn't anything school- or anything honor-code related. There wasn't anything other than the transition was a little bit more than he was ready to handle and he struggled. He just wasn't quite ready. I like him and I want what's best for him and his family. I'll support him any way that I can. |
Boston College is a solid football team, which is exactly what we saw on the field today. They run the ball effectively, they play-action pass effectively and they're hard to score points on. They play well and they're well-coached. They're worthy of where they're ranked to this point. |
Cal played an excellent game today and they deserved to win. The end result is we played good enough to lose by seven. The disappointing aspect is it was a loss. The positive aspect is that we exhibited resiliency. We know we could have won that game. We fell short for a number of reasons, but I believe this was a solid beginning to what's to come for this program. And I look forward to getting right back to it after Christmas. |
Conference is the first and most important goal. I've done everything I can to up the intensity level. |
Each specific week and that week's full attention is what needs to be focused on now. As I've thought a lot about it, that has been my message to them. All those other things, that's for me to see. |
From the first day Coach Anae was here, ball security has been stressed after practice every day, and there were no turnovers [Saturday], ... Dropped [passes] has been addressed every day, and I believe that there was one of those. When we ask correctly, they respond. |
He had a better winter workout than his spring. He'll have to earn that spot right up to the first game and then on to the second and third and so on. |
He usually calls to check in. |
He was confident with the football, ... He certainly wasn't afraid of contact; wasn't looking to run out of bounds. He was looking to gain positive yards. In fact, at the end of plays you see him tackled and then reaching the ball forward just to make a statement: One more yard. |

He was poised and gained confidence. I'm proud to be his coach. |
