He didn't know the Princeton system when he got there, but he kept one of the assistants and kept the offense intact. I guess he's done a little bit of what Georgetown has done and modernized it a little bit. They've been pretty effective playing that system, especially with a coach who was an NBA coach. I mean, that's a big change. |
He didn't take care of business. |
He does it without a lot of pizzazz. He's just very consistent. He doesn't yell or throw elbows or bring attention to it. |
He felt a little confident. He had a couple freshmen guarding him at different times, got them in the paint, got a pull-up jumper. He got to the free throw line and he made them too, so that's even better. |
He got a lot of points in transition. [But] he's a typical mid-major three/four. If you put a four on him he goes outside and uses his ball-handling skills. If you put a little guy on him, he posts you up. He is a tough player. |
He got the OK to begin on-the-court stuff, |
He had the game of his life. |
He has come in and shot extra. I know he's counting on his shot going in. He's shot like, 'I'm going to make them.' It hasn't been a hope thing. It's (all about) repetition and feeling good about yourself. |
He has some days when he starts stepping up, |
He has that experience, he's older, he's in better shape, he's really worked at his weights. He actually goes on a treadmill after practice for 15 or 20 minutes to keep his endurance up. He has worked at his game. He's more than just a 3-point shooter now. |
He hasn't had a breakout game since that Memphis game two years ago. As a high school kid, that's what he was known for. It's good to see him do that. |
He just got in one of those grooves and just got going. It seemed like everything he was throwing up there was going in. When he missed, you were surprised. |
He just smiled at me and kept on going. |
He kept apologizing, ... I said, 'Hey, I love that you're a villain, keep doing it.' Deron said one time, 'That's their job, to make predictions. That's what they do.' But at the same time deep down, it gets the juices flowing a little bit. . . . We need a little adrenaline tomorrow; there's no doubt about it. If we don't have an edge, I don't know if we can win the game. |
He knows he has to break a bad habit. |
