The stock market is still hung over after Greenspan's speech yesterday.

Clearly, with GDP cruising at 5.6 percent, our economy is definitely steaming along, and that's got the Fed worried. And the question is, going forward: What do we see at the June meeting? Do we see another 50 basis points?

Some weaker-than-expected economic data is supporting the plight of equities (Thursday). With six rate hikes from the Fed now under our belt, we are beginning to see signs of an economic slowdown, suggesting that there could be light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

Selling on the news has been the mantra for second-quarter earnings season. What's more has been the bull's inability to piece together any kind of winning streak. With sustainability in question and anxiety abounding about tomorrow's (Thursday's) Employment Cost Index and Friday's second quarter GDP, few players are willing to step up to the plate today.

That kind of capitulatory downside will lead to bounces, but the question is sustainability and follow-through. That's something the market has been unable to demonstrate any credibility in doing so over the last three months.

We've had some rainbows, but the themes of low visibility and investor uncertainty have run loud and clear here. But you get to the point where selling has run its course and late-day flurries have shown that this process is under way.

By and large there's nothing going on. Merck is really propping up the Dow and there may be some position squaring going into the (Fed) meeting.

It's really a 'show me' kind of market. We're at the point where we have to start culling more economic data and see if we can find some kind of consensus.

This number is clearly the basis for our weakness. The economy's recovery has hinged on consumer strength, so this number becomes more significant.

I think we're seeing a continuation of the bullish buys that have been going on for a while. The market is showing some resiliency.
