As long as you play it, if you don't execute, you're putting yourself in jeopardy of not winning. You've got to score a whole bunch of runs and this was a night it didn't happen. Their bullpen, obviously, was very effective.

As they say in the rodeo business, he just drew a tough one. There were a lot of positives for Jason to take out of this. He put us in a position to win.

As we've talked about in the past, when he pitches (instead of throws), he can be very good.

Bad base-running play. Very bad.

Because there might not be a next time. You get tired of next time. You need to do it this time. We said a lot of 'get 'em next time' last year.

Because they're capable of doing it. And obviously I think the other team would be the first one to tell you, they're not pitching like they can or like they need to. They're probably leaving balls up over the plate. We're getting some balls to hit, and we're hitting them.

Both of them are looking better and more healthy than I have seen them in a long time. They have both been here working out for a while.

But to get out of there with three runs, he did OK. He got some things accomplished but he's got work in front of him.

But we played better than the other team tonight. We won by one run.

Communication and managing crisis, and I use that word loosely, that is gotten with experience. I just think it would be very difficult, and it's a very challenging situation to be in, to never have done it anywhere before and have to do it at this level.

Danny handles the staff extremely well. His defensive skills are second to none. And his ability to throw is as good as there is in our league. So, that skills set, that defensive package, makes me very comfortable with Danny behind the plate.

Danny is taking advantage of the opportunities that he's been given. He's provided some very good defensive stability behind home plate. His receiving and his blocking and his throwing has been a marked improvement over anything that we've really had here in a long time.

Do we look at Jason's three-plus years, or Cookie's two strong months? They both want to do it and that's good. They know they are going to match up with the top dog from the other teams more often than not, but they want to do it because they want the challenge. That's what you want to see in your pitchers.

Every team that added something is hoping that something pops. Their situation is not more removed than ours. We are moving forward with men that showed some value and took positive steps for us.
