That decision won't be made until later in the week, probably Friday. |
The girls were strong all the way through. The team is still getting over some jet lag, but it was important for them to get back to the start line and test themselves against a strong field. |
The Olympics are about winning but not winning under any circumstances. You want to win because you're the better athlete, not because someone has equipment failure. |
The stability of the coaching staff is a big factor. We have everyone back and we?ve added a few guys like Mike Heath from Springfield to give us a few more experienced coaches. The kids have responded. They?re a little more comfortable. They know what they?re doing and because of that we?re ahead of where we were at this point last year. I think we?ll be a better football team because of it. |
There's a big pool of students all over the state of Indiana. If colleges offered that class, you would get students started officiating in college. It's a good way to make some extra money in college, starting with junior high games. |
They had a chance to disintegrate, playing the teams that they played. You commend those kids for that, and you commend Jeff and his staff for holding it together because the problems they've had, it's the kind of thing that tears a team apart. |
This is a team that believes in itself. We know we have two conference games on the road against teams that are capable of beating us. The players are keenly aware of that and have a very healthy respect for their opponents. |
To be successful, we have to be able to protect Mike (Lomas) and run the ball. That?s where the offensive line comes in. We have some good young kids up there, they just need some seasoning. That?s where the stability in the offense helps because most of those kids have been in the system for two years so they know and understand the blocking schemes. |
Todd came up big for us when we needed it. |
We have to be able to run the ball on a consistent basis. We open up at Wilkes and you never know what the weather is going to be like this time of year. You can?t count on throwing the ball 40 or 50 times a game. Plus, in this league, you have to be able to manage the football and manage the clock. The way some of these teams are, the best way to beat them is to keep their offense off the field. |
We played them so long ago that both teams have changed a lot since then. I do know that it will be another tough, close game. |
We?ll find out about Pat later this week and Mike?s hamstring has not responded to rehab the way we would have hoped. |
We?re going to give away some size up front and that could hurt us a little bit against the more physical team in the league like Wilkes and Lycoming. The question is will we be able to put enough pressure on the quarterback. That?s going to be our toughest problem. |
When we got a chance to get them down a little bit we put them away on both ends of the floor. Everybody we put in played well defensively after the first three or four baskets. |
You can just see it. (Quarterback) Mike Lomas and the rest of the guys on offense have a great grasp of what we?re trying to do because they haven?t had to learn a new system. They?re working on refining what they know instead of learning a new offense. |
