As being a Washingtonian I just think that Howard is a great institution. I mean this Gym was built in what 1963, so of course there are some things that need to be improved upon. So I need to get the student-athletes that have graduated to give back, because that is what is going to get us going. I have to convince the alumni to get on board, because there are some things that the university can't do alone. |
I need to evaluate where we are. Tomorrow I will take a look at capital projects. Most importantly I will be looking at those types of things that student-athletes need to use immediately. Those types of things I will attack as soon as I get time tomorrow. |
Today is my first official day and already I have been bombarded by the alumni who have made me feel so welcome. The people I have met are just so energetic about the success, and if I could just feed off of their energy and love for Howard, I will be able to achieve success. |
You must take care of the student-athlete. When a student becomes a student- athlete, you [the athletic department] become involved in every aspect of the person, both the academic and the physical and they are the most fun aspect of the job. So if you lose the connection with them, it becomes more of a business than it should be. |
