The last thing we need is for him to go out there and really pop it and have to miss six to eight weeks.

This is going to be a great game for the fans. It's going to be a competitive game. But I don't know how much bearing it will have for either team down the road. I mean, if we go out and dominate them, I don't know what bearing that would have come playoff time, and same thing the other way.

We just have to play him better. It's a fine line as to how much you want to show (before the playoffs). We talked as a staff this morning about the stuff we've been working on -- how much do we want to use it or not use it? I guess we'll just have to wait and see in the heat of the battle.

That was Detroit basketball. The more we played against them, the more we understood their sets and we were able to contest their shots. If we play lock-down defense like we did tonight, we can play with these guys.

I think it means something because in this league confidence means so much. You never want a player to have so much confidence that he feels he can take over a game at any time. The positive thing about this is that he's not going to think he can walk out on the floor and score 17 straight against us.

He got a perfect score. I was fairly impressed with his knowledge of things. Not just the plays, but our philosophy and what we are trying to get accomplished. It was sort of a litmus test to see how much he'd been listening. He's taken in quite a lot.

It's not going to mean much come June.

He's fearless. He puts so much pressure on you. I am amazed at the punishment he takes. I'm amazed he's not hurt more (because of) how high he plays off the ground and the falls he takes.

He's a different presence. There's no question that without him, they didn't go inside as much. He gives them a low-block presence. He's more of a go-to guy as far as inside down the stretch. Defensively, he's a shot blocker. It just gives them more bodies up front.

Last night's game was a big game just because it put us up (9 1/2 games) with 15 to go. Now we're in a situation where we want to try and extend our bench a little bit, get those guys more minutes, and get our guys where we can stay competitive and fresh.

When Ben struggles, sometimes that motivates him at the defensive end. He gets the attitude that if I'm not going to score, then you aren't going to score.

Ben usually makes big free throws down the stretch and when he misses, it motivates him to play harder defensively.

It's natural. We're in a very different situation than a lot of teams. A lot of teams, the reason they play their bench is because they don't like their fourth and fifth guys that much. I like my fourth and fifth guys. That's why our bench doesn't get the minutes some of the other benches get. You have a tendency to go to a comfort level.

We try to talk a little bit, keep in touch every now and then, follow each other's career. It's a unique situation. You have two guys who played with each other, went four years together.

He made some shots early. Maybe got carried away a little bit in the second half. You can see that he's getting into better shape. He's lively. And he's one of those guys when he's guarding somebody, they don't want him on them.
