Good camps fulfill a parent's number one concern -- safety -- while supplying experiences and lessons in character and friendship that parents can't provide on their own. Good camps also provide a positive and inclusive atmosphere in which to grow that satisfies a child's need to belong through secret handshakes, cheers, rituals or competition. |
It's just a transition period. April can still bring some (snowy) stuff here when it gets pretty cold. |
It's so empowering for that to happen under the supervision of young adults who aren't their parents. Campers become part of a special club of children who don't need parental supervision. |
