I always take a lot of extra care checking my saddle and blanket. As you're going through timber down the trail, you're going to pick up pine needles and stuff. You don't want your animal to get saddle sore. |
If you've ever packed a quarter elk out on your back, well ? let's just say I became interested in using stock early on. One of my favorite memories is being able to shoot a six-by-six elk 20 miles into the wilderness, and packing it out. To me, that was as rewarding as it gets. |
You want to put together a load so you can go 15 miles down the trail without having a wreck. You can turn packing into an art form just like anything else. |
