My thing with the meeting is that you just see things creep in sometimes, and you want to stop it before it does more than creep. It's easy in the last couple weeks of the season to ... let up instead of going all-out. |
No one in the world I thought would catch that ball. |
Not one bit for guys who've proven they are bona fide major-leaguers. |
Not surprised. Rich has done it all year for us. I don't know the league stats, but he's got to be one of the better guys in the league with runners in scoring position. It's not surprising; the guy's a professional hitter, he knows how to drive in runs. |
Offensively, we just didn't do a whole lot. |
One big inning. The first night (Friday), we weren't able to put up a crooked number. The last two days we were. |
One thing I love being able to do is something like that, ... He deserves it. |
One thing they have done is continue to play as a team. This is more of a credit to how they've played than anything I've done. |
Our guys are pretty resilient. We've had a couple of real ugly games, losses, and have come back and won the next day. |
Our guys are pretty resilient. We've had a couple of really ugly games, losses, and came back and won the next day. It was nice to come out today and score those runs early. I think that helped everybody. |
Part of my job (is) making sure they know when they're going to play and keeping them sharp. |
Phillips can work out extremely well for us. It was amazing he did not get a chance to play every day in Cleveland, but we're certainly glad to have him. |
Playing in Boston, playing in New York, even a minor role is a big role. I don't know that you'd consider what he did in Boston a minor role, I'm not saying that. But just the intensity and the atmosphere, the urgency to win, makes it a bigger role. |
Possibly. But he's been pitching long enough now that he shouldn't get rattled. |
Probably the people that are playing us. |
