I suspect the prospect of running another difficult campaign coupled with the embarrassment of the reprimand made this, if not an easy, an understandable decision. |
It will tell us something about the new justices. I don't think it will tell us everything people would like to know about them. |
Only the Ohio Supreme Court, of any court, has the real authority to answer the question. |
Politically, I see no possibility that impeachment will succeed. |
That's a pretty strong pro-life position. That doesn't necessarily mean that if she were on the court now she would vote to overrule Roe. It might mean that. |
The Democrats are a minority in both houses of Congress. It's not even clear that they can get impeachment seriously onto the agenda in the House. Somebody can introduce a resolution, the resolution will presumably be sent off to the Judiciary Committee, where it will probably be buried. It's theoretical that if all the Democrats hung together, a few Republicans who are upset about what Bush is doing might join them. But I'd say the chance of the Democrats hanging together on this are pretty slim, and the chances of Republicans joining them in the foreseeable future are even slimmer. |
