Time will tell (how great it was), but this season not only established our high school as a legitimate football program in Hall County and the region, but people in the state have started talking about Flowery Branch football. Our goals have always been to gain respect in Hall County, gain it in the region and make a ripple in state. And this year we did that. |
We had three guys run well and the rest didn't. I was disappointed we didn't do better than we did. I was happy with Derek Lax, a first-year sophomore who I thought would be our seventh runner this year. He's stepped up and been in the top three. He ran great today in his first varsity meet. |
We played some good teams with some good athletes, but I thought the intangible was our chemistry. There are no secrets with the X's and O's anymore, it's about guys believing in what they're doing and believing in each other. When you put your teammate before yourself and you don't want to let them down, you start playing above your head and maybe doing some things that normally you wouldn't be able to do. That's a lot of why we went 11-2. |
We ran better than we did last week in the City Meet, but it was a tough course, so you couldn't see the improvement in the times. Our first three runners ran well. Now we need our four and five guys to step up. |
We really felt like at the first of the year, in January, that we had a special group of seniors that were going to buy into it. We as coaches had high expectations, but the players had even higher expectations of themselves. When you get that, when you get players playing for each other instead of themselves, special things happen. |
We're looking pretty good so far. We only have two seniors, but we have some talented underclassmen. Next year, we should be very, very good. |
