All those prayers I offered up have paid off. I'm anticipating him being ready opening day. He'll be ready, if he can physically do it. We were looking at 4 to 6 weeks, and now we're looking at 3 to 5 days. So it's not too bad.

Allowing him get to third base in the first place wasn't a real building block, but J.J. did a great job. He got a big strikeout against one of the best hitters in the league in Teixeira. Being able to keep that run from scoring, obviously, was huge. It was a big lift for us. It turned out to be a key part of why we won the game.

And then you could see him pull back, take a little more time on the mound and find a way to get the hitter out instead of just throwing harder. As a competitor, Danny wasn't flashy. He was one of those who made people around him better and there are good players who don't do that.

As much as we would like to hitch him to a wagon and let him take us as far as he can, we're just not going to do that. We want to build something that will last, and sometimes you have to make difficult choices.

At about the 85 to 90 pitch mark, I don't know if he got a little tired and stopped over-throwing or if something clicked for him, but he really settled in. I wish he could have thrown 180 pitches because I would have left him in there.

At some point in the future, I would probably consider it, but I don't know if we're there yet. But certainly that's one of our options.
