A rally in a bear market. |
Accounting and other issues are still overriding the market. There have been some reasonably good economic numbers but the earnings situation hasn't gotten as good as it could. You could make a case for the bull and the bear. |
I don't think anybody's looking at the Fed meeting because nothing's going to happen there for God knows how long. I think next week you're looking for a continuation of what we saw today... I think you just might get the feeling that there is some good news on the horizon and that the possibility of this market doing better is very, very high. |
I just don't know how far we'll be able to go with the Fed helping us out. At some juncture, the numbers as far as earnings are going to have to turn around. |
I think the stimulation that (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan has given to the economy is starting to take hold. It's going to take us a little while, by the third quarter, maybe even into the fourth quarter, we may see things do better. |
I think things went comparatively well today (Friday). The market has said and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan has said that the recovery is another quarter away, that it's going to be the third quarter, not the second, which is what people had been thinking. |
I think you're looking out two quarters, maybe even three quarters before you start to see a substantive increase in earnings for some of these companies. That, to me, is in a nutshell what's going on in the markets. |
If we have had (a recession) or are almost out of a recession, you can see this light at the end of the tunnel. The opportunity for moves on the upside are pretty high. |
It's a brutal market. I've been doing this for more than 30 years and I've never seen anything like this. |
It's a market of air pockets. |
It's been a good week and a good run. The attitude is absolutely 100 percent better than it was a few months ago. The whole feeling is different, and I think we've got enough skeptics to keep this moving along. ...The highs are higher and the lows are higher and I think that's really indicative of it. |
The market never faltered today, and it was a good close. But I think you're going to have this fog of war going forward. Also, we're not sure what direction we're going with the economy, and earnings are still spotty. |
The market seems to have fresh life, fresh enthusiasm. Psychology is what this market is all about and when we feel good, we buy. |
The markets took a rest Friday after a pretty busy week. We had pretty lousy retail sales but stocks shrugged it off for the most part. The market has factored in another rate cut next week. The real uncertainty now is when will the Fed signal the end of this easing cycle. We think that could be around the corner. |
The more you have the aggressive kind of buying you had today, the longer this kind of good market can continue. |
