The difference between here and Augusta is that the fairways are a little tighter here and the rough is a lot thicker. Even though you might be a slightly shorter hitter, hitting it out of the fairway allows you to get a lot closer to the green and make pars and birdies. |
The difference is that I felt that sense of relief after I broke through and won a major and I feel this great feeling of accomplishment. To come out on top, it's a great feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. |
The great thing about today is it was not the last day. I know that obviously he's playing well, but because it was not the final round, I wasn't really concerned. I should be now – I'm four back. |
The greens are hard and with water in front, they are very difficult to hold. |
The last seven holes got away from me, but I'm still within striking distance. As the week has gone on, I've gotten better and better. I think with just one little tweak here or there with the blade, I'll have a good day (today). |
The more you study the course, the more you appreciate what a great test it is. |
The most important piece of equipment is the golf ball. |
The next major isn't for another seven months. I just want to relish this, and enjoy the fact that for the next seven months, I'm the most recent major winner. |
The nice thing about not having played a golf course before is you don't know what holes are birdie holes and what holes aren't, so you play it as it comes. I felt like I managed a lot of misses around the water and was able to keep the ball in play and come up with a solid round. |
The object of golf is not just ot win. It is to play like a gentleman, and win. |
The stress free walk up 18 was incredible. It was a great feeling walking up there knowing I had the tournament in hand. I will cherish that final round and look back at some of the shots that I was able to pull off and some of the putts that I was able to make. |
The stress-free walk up 18 was incredible. I had been wanting that. I had actually been wanting a four- or five-shot lead, but three was OK, too. |
The stress-free walk up the 18th hole was a great feeling. I've wanted that experience in a major for a long time. What a way to finish a long day, but a wonderful day. |
The thing I respect most about Bobby Jones is how educated an individual he was. He didn't spend every minute practicing like we do, working out, trying to hone his skills as much as possible. He would put the clubs up for six or eight months, go study and get his degrees, then pull the clubs out of the closet and play top-caliber golf. It was just amazing. |
The thing I was most proud of about today's round was that on this course everybody is going to make mistakes, but sometimes it's hard to forget about it and let it go. After I made a double on 1, I was able to be patient and let it go and came back with birdies on 3 and 5. When I bogeyed 6, I was able to let it go and come back with a birdie on 8. I was able to let go of some bad shots and forget about it and move on. |
