I was never really liked in that city. I mean, I don't think I was liked as a person. I was kind of seen as a black kid, young African-American, cornrows, drives fancy cars, wears diamond earrings, things like that. They just kind of based their perception off of what I drove and what I did and things like that. All those things were never a part of any other player on that team but me. |
I was surprised to see that. I didn't expect him to follow me to both sides of the field. I said, 'Oh man, I've got my work cut out for me today.' He's one of the best there is. We had a good battle. I won some, and he won some. |
I watched the guy [Macklin] on film and thought I could get by him. |
I've pretty much kept my nose clean since then, just tried to be a reliable person and show my teammates they can count on me. I respect [Coughlin] as a coach and I'll wager he respects me as a player. |
If our defense continues to do what they've been doing, we're tough to beat. |
It kind of seemed like everything was thrown on my back off of one play that I didn't make, ... and I took that kind of personal, from the people in that city and some of the things that were said about me. |
It seemed everything we did, they had an answer. It's kind of embarrassing to play like that. |
It takes time to get your timing on your routes and things like that, ... It's getting a little easier, but you don't want to get anyone hurt. |
It was just a great throw by Eli. I'm here to make a few big plays for the team. |
It was just a humbling year for me, |
Just let Eli be Eli and he's going to be OK, ... Stop putting so much pressure on him and just let E be E. I've got a lot of faith in him. He's the quarterback of this team. |
Last week is last week. I treat each day like a new day, and I'm pretty sure everybody else does, too. |
Last year taught me to just take my job more seriously, ... I have to remember that I'm doing what I love to do and I've got the best job in the world. I've got to treat it that way. |
Now, I have the opportunity to catch more balls and I relish the opportunity, ... It's something I've always wanted. I think I needed a change. It was like 'Groundhog Day,' doing the same thing over and over again. What better place could I be than to come to New York and try to put everybody to the side and say, 'This is who I am.' |
Our offense has to go out and be crisp, be sharp. We have to do everything we can, not so much to pick up the defense, but to give us some momentum heading into the playoffs. |
