(Game-planning) is never about one player. But you have to respect someone that's going to put up a double-double. |
[Rather, if the upcoming LSU season is to be dedicated to Gunter's memory at all, it'll be in a much quieter, yet stronger fashion.] She's embedded in the fabric of all of us, ... and the best thing we can do is be the best people we can be, and if that translates into victory, that is so enough for her. |
[While Gunter's passing and enshrinement are major events in the history of LSU basketball, don't expect too much in the way of dedications when the season tips off.] She would probably come down from heaven and put me over her knee if I did anything any differently in regards to her not being here, ... When she stepped down during the season, it was never about `Win one for the Gipper' and Sue's demise. |
18 years of witnessing Coach Gunter's mastery. |
At certain times, you get a player of her caliber, and because of prior star players, you have this expectation. And she extinguished them immediately. |
From my office I could see the helicopters landing on the track and taking off all day. You knew every time it was someone who was really sick. |
Going into the season, looking at our schedule and our conference and to prepare well against that and be rewarded is exciting. |
Her legacy will not be her last game. |
Honestly, I didn't know I had any records left to break. The hope is to continue playing and get some fresh legs underneath some people. But it does seem like a pretty smooth move on my part. |
I acted like it was the most normal day. And that took so much energy out of me. I got my cup of coffee, read my e-mails. I let all the news come to me. |
I am who I am in no small part because of the role she has played in my life — both as a coach and as a person. I feel a great sense of responsibility to carry on her legacy at LSU. |
I better not tell them. They might think they're good. |
I can always tell the energy of the crowd when they come back in the locker room. |
I can't tell you her words [when she learned of her election], but it was the look in her eyes that had been gone, ... That smirk in the right side of her mouth. And then the wink. ... They talk about [the friendship of] Jim Calhoun and Jim Boeheim. That was Sue with everyone she came in contact with. It's just a reminder to me of how special she was. |
I don?t think (a national title) needs to validate her game. I think the fashion in which she?s accomplished things validate (her game), but why not let that be the golden prize for a kid that has done so much for the game, for herself and for the program? |
