If I'm going to get out here and decide to do this again, I'd have to really commit to it. That's as far as I'm thinking about right now.

I'm proud of the way he carries himself out there. But I'd be proud of the way he carries himself if he wasn't playing baseball at all.

I just go to the ballpark and watch as the media buzz around me. Especially if the Red Sox are playing. I hang out on the field before the game. I visit the clubhouses. The rumors start flying like base hits off one of those South African pitchers we faced in the World Baseball Classic. Good times.

Brett, you know what I like to do? Just to say sharp?

Teams were playing us tough anyway, but maybe more so after we got back in the race. The guys persevered, and this makes that trip back home a whole lot easier.

It's just disappointing, ... I don't like coming out of those and putting Brad in that situation. I know he loves those situations, too. But when it doesn't work out ... you hate to come out on the short end of it.

The big points in the game were when we scored, I needed to go out and shut them out and I didn't. The [Weeks] home run gave them too much momentum. There's no doubt about that. Brad [Ausmus] and I had total control of the game until that home run.

When I step away from the game, our game is in good hands. We have some good, young talented players, everyday guys, and definitely pitchers. He's right there at the top of the list. You feel you pass the baton along to the next generation of guys. I think the fans out here will enjoy this kid for a long time.

Where do you start in a game like this?

You have to be mistake-free, so I was trying to be as stingy as possible.
