The real issue is there's just lots of potential for misuse. You open up opportunity for problems that doesn't exist right now with almost no public safety benefit. |
They have a lot of authority to do that already, and the border security problems are exactly the types of crimes that they already have authority to do the wiretapping for. |
They have a structural accountability problem; they're federally funded, state managed and locally staffed, therefore accountable to no one. |
