I like to think, in the broadest way, this is about communication, ... How do we connect with something outside of ourselves - a spiritual yearning, or other people. All the strands come to that broad theme. |
Juliette in particular - there is so much in her face, |
The World's Fasted Indian. |
We began thinking about her and sort of talked ourselves into this idea that maybe she wouldn't be Jewish. She could be anything ... one of the things high on our list was we needed a face who alone with the camera could communicate an interior life. Someone who could make the audience care about this private life. Juliette has a kind of emotional depth that feels rooted very deeply and feels honest. |
