Our choice of Mickey is so obvious. He has been around so long he has become a part of American history. It just took a while to recognize his value as a national treasure. Mickey was a star at the same time Gloria Swanson reigned, the Telluride Film Festival's very first Silver Medallion recipient. After his crash, we thought his career had ended when he appeared in noir quickies, but he was rediscovered by Francis Ford Coppola and played Henry in 'The Black Stallion.' Mickey went on to win an Emmy for his performance of a mentally impaired man in 'Bill.' He still performs in live shows. No one has seen more of Hollywood than Mickey. |

This year is also shaping up to be a very literate and literary Festival. |
