I just don't think, at the end of the day the world needs another three electric guitar rock band, no matter how good they are. And I certainly think for what we are and what we do, I think we need to -- not that we haven't in the past -- really celebrate the uniqueness of the instruments we play and the uniqueness of our song selection, the history we have and the material that we, right now, only trot every four or five years or so. Can't we put something together that sounds like nobody else on earth but us? Not that we don't ever do that, but there's so much more. |
In so many words, I would say it's just a low boredom threshold. We get restless if we do any one thing for too long. |
We knew it was going to be somewhat of a devalued idea in that so many people had done these collaboration records. But we just felt if we did something that was more of a tribute record to ourselves and had the people we really admired and like, that if it would be partially revisionist and partially new stuff, taking it as it went and seeing how it developed, then, in retrospect, it was a good way of approaching it. It allowed us to take a few chances and do some different things. |
