Gerry's accomplishments are well documented. He now has a significant voice in all aspects of our baseball operations.

It finally started to hit me recently. I was so caught up in the moment from the time I took over, trying to do so many things, that I didn't get a chance to experience what it would be like. We had a lot to do to get things right, but we are getting it done and today it's all hitting me.

The greatest experiences really were on the other side of the fence. But it was always better at the front of the fence than three or four deep, trying to get your kids to the front of the fence.

I felt like I knew him already.

This is the day we pointed to. It's optimistic. It's enthusiastic. It's exciting. Really, on a scale of 1-10 of expectations, it's past a 10. It's just great, just wonderful.

There's an energy. You can feel the energy of what's happening.

We want to win. Will that make it a success? Absolutely. But there are other things that certainly would allow us to point to this year as a very successful year, and I think we're already on the way.

I felt like I knew him already. We spent a lot of time talking on the phone.

The first three were Stuart. We'll see when I have three dozen in front of me. They say the hardest thing to do is hit a round ball with a round bat. I think it might be harder to use a round ballpoint pen on a round baseball.

It's like you're going on vacation, and the trip is three days away, that's probably the best time, that anticipation. It's almost like the anticipation is greater than the journey itself. I don't think that's going to be the case. But right now, if I can almost stop time, it's this great period where we're just close enough, and you see all this spectacular work getting done, both with the team and the organization and the stadium, that if I can just stop it now, it would be great. Unfortunately wins and losses will muck everything up.

We've received a lot of national press. It's been positive, and it's had a spillover to a lot of national sponsorship deals.

There's a lot of good going on right now. And we seem to be coming along.

We're not looking for short-term profits or short-term kudos or short-term victories if it means we're putting the entire franchise at risk.

This is more than Opening Day. This is the first day.

We'll just keep building up on what we're doing here and make sure when they come back they have equally as good a time as they're having tonight. I'm overjoyed [with] what the organization has done. I'm just really proud of everybody.
