I think he's better prepared mentally and physically to not let that happen. I think he's got his off-the-field issues pretty well behind him, and his knees, for the most part, feel better. So I think he's better prepared to not let things snowball.

I do believe in him, probably more than most people. But at the same time you kind of want to know what a guy's going to do. That level of consistency is huge in our game. That's part of the reason we pitched him yesterday, so we can try to allow him to do that.

He competes well. This kid is going to be fun, he's going to do well.

He wouldn't be there if I didn't think he could do it.

I don't think there's any surprises because if you're going to make a trade of that magnitude, you're going to pretty much know what you're getting. But it was nice to see him show up real healthy and strong.

He likes to compete. If he hollers at somebody once or twice a year, it's not really the end of the world.

Even starting with the first hitter, he had a tough time commanding it. He didn't have a chance to kind of get settled before, all of a sudden, you're in a full-fledged rally.

Pap, I thought he was tremendous. Believe me, I don't do things like that on a spur of the moment. I try to put a lot of thought behind it. I have a lot of faith in that young man.

He was called up to the big leagues at such a young age that I don't know that anybody knows what his ceiling is. He's not going to play every day for us, but we are going to try to use him where we can get some protection out of him. Down the road, I don't think anybody knows what the future holds for him. He might be pretty good.

It actually happened identical to what I told them. This was the only way we were going to do this.

It's a shame he gave up four runs because he was so good. He was aggressive. He got the lead and he knew what to do with it.

Early on, we made it hard on (Wakefield). He made some real good pitches, stranded some runners, gave himself a chance to settle down.

It's starting to rain. It's a sloppy inning. We get a swinging bunt and all of a sudden you have a rally.

I might have thrown some people for a loop or led to some interesting talk, but it's really not a hot-button issue with us. Everybody understands, or they will understand. We're just trying to win as many games as we can.

I thought he was throwing real good pitches. I didn't take him out because of his performance. I was just trying to set up our bullpen and he understood that.
