Birds do strange things sometimes. Not all birds are wired the same way. Thirty-five years ago a heron from Africa showed up on Martha's Vineyard, and herons don't fly nearly as well as other birds. |
The weather was not favorable for birding. The winds were very heavy, 25 to 30 miles per hour. That keeps the birds below cover and you can't hear their songs. |
We go out at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning looking for owls; at least some of us did. I was out at 5 a.m. looking for screech owls and horned owls. Then we bird all day long, make compilations, take snacks and put together our info. We broke into six sections. |
