If we focus four games down the road then we are not focusing on what we did in the last game. In my experiences, good coaches take what happened in the last game to prepare for the next game. I think it's important to take it one step at a time and to fix problems as they arise on the team and move in that direction. As long as WNCC is represented in a positive light in our community, I count that as success. |
It has been going pretty well. We have had a few preseason injuries, but all in all, we are coming together pretty good and our numbers are starting to increase. We should have close to a full roster by the time we travel this weekend. |
We certainly would like to come back with wins. But of course, my focus is not necessarily on winning. The strategy that we will come up for our first couple of matches will be designed to win the game but the team goals will be slightly different. I may ask them to possess the ball for a certain amount of minutes of the game to see how our training is being transferred to the field. |
We have to take it one step at a time. Quoting from the great Tom Osborne that you never look at the next game until you play the one right in front of you. That's how I focus when I coach games. |
We want to make sure as we develop and start almost a rebuilding process this year, that we don't put the focus in the wrong area. Sometimes I think, especially at the collegiate level, that the focus is put in the wrong area. If I want to teach a student to be a better soccer player then I have to give them attainable goals. We will talk about team goals, and whether that's winning the Region IX championship, we will see. We'll have to leave that top secret for now. |
