It's very vital with the 85-scholarship limit that you do have walk-ons that participate on your special teams because they are so important. That's an area where they can come out and contribute. There's not a team in this conference that doesn't have walk-ons that participate that make a difference during the season. I think that's what's great about football. |
Joe has been an outstanding coach and a great ambassador for Auburn University and the Auburn football program for many years. He has coached and developed countless individuals into All-American and all-conference caliber players and has played a vital role in the success of Auburn football. Joe will continue to be very close to the football program. We look forward to working with him on a daily basis. |
John and Motley, those two guys, that was a real consistent day for them. |
Looking at all the film that I looked at over the last month, not many people have tackled them in the open field. |
Mississippi State has a good football team, the most improved team I have seen in a long time. They have a good scheme and they know their limitations. They are going to do things that give them a chance to win. |
No complaints on our part. We'll go down there and play, and it will make no difference on who wins and loses. |
Now they'll 60-65 percent of the time and the backups might play 25-30 percent. It's time to get down to serious business. |
Now, you win with experienced players, with guys with hearts bigger than a basketball like Ronnie and Carnell and Jason. Those guys laid it on the line ... but this is, of all things, I'm more proud of our program than even 13-0. We're in great shape. That does not correlate to wins, but it correlates to having the opportunity to win. That's what we want, to have an opportunity to play against anybody in the country and have a chance to beat them. Our program is pretty much to that point. |
Obviously, we feel like there's one more vote. We'll be auditioning. |
Obviously, when you turn the ball over like we did you can't beat a team like (Tech), ... We have to run the football better. We can't beat good football teams running like we did. |
Offensively, it was a day of lining up and playing smash-mouth. We'll do that again in a lot of our practices. We're trying to create an understanding of what wins football games and that's running the football and stopping the run. We had some good performances on the offense. Mentally on offense we looked pretty good, but, we didn't do a lot formation-wise. |
One more game (USC vs. Auburn) would have been perfect this year. |
Our defense played hard, we just didn't do anything with our kicking game. It let us down at times, that's my fault. We must not have worked enough on it, but we will work on it. |
Our younger guys will learn from it. It's just unfortunate. The one who's going to suffer from it, obviously, is him. He didn't get to play his last game as an Auburn Tiger, and he'll always have to remember that. |
Respect — you have to earn that and we didn't early in the season. We were forgot about for a while, and we're kinda moving back up. |
