Intoxication is an issue in this case. It's a very important issue and we are going to be able to perceive fully, with strong evidence, that he was intoxicated and that he knew what he was doing ? that he fled the scene because of it.

 Keep in mind -- if he's driving like a bat out of hell, the time that it's going to take him to get from the point of impact to off that sidewalk is going to be less than a second. So, if he's looking at them as they're going up in the air, he doesn't see the car on the sidewalk. That doesn't mean it wasn't there. (Another witness) said it was there.

 The law in Texas doesn't give you any credit if you voluntarily take something and it impairs you even worse. You don't get a benefit because you combine your impairing substances. In fact, in my opinion, it is even worse.

 The victims wanted closure. They wanted him to accept responsibility for his actions. They wanted him to go to prison as soon as possible.
