It was not going to be in my best interest to be in the dugout as a lame-duck manager, ... I asked myself the question, 'Could I get the club back to where it was at the end of 2004 before the end of 2006?' I thought there was a good possibility it would take more time than that. |
It was one lady and six guys sitting next to me, and we were just playing around all game. And (if) they take it the wrong way, that's fine. I know the last couple of days I slept pretty good about it because I don't have anything in my conscience to make me feel guilty about it. |
It was really exciting for us to get our bats going like we did today. Everyone really contributed today. We've been focusing on getting in the box and getting a pitch you can do something with and we really did that today. And we keep reducing our strikeouts with is nice to see. |
It was scary to walk in there and see all those ropes hanging. It brought it to reality. It was like oh my God, they did the same thing to them that they used to do to us. I guess there was not much difference because they were both a kind of slavery no matter how you look at it. |
It was something I intended on doing down the track, ... Now, if I had been a player in Australia who wasn't having a great career or was at the crossroads, I would have probably jumped at it when I was 25 or 26. But my career went the way that I would have liked it to have gone. |
It wasn't a matter of what he was not doing. He gave us a good effort. He's 21 years old and we feel that we want him to play, to work on some stuff that he needs to work on and we believe it's better for him to go work down there than lay on the sand and come back with a suntan. |
It wasn't only him (who was injured) at the time. But he was playing at such a high level. The first 30, 40 games, I thought he got better every game. His stats might not reflect that, but just in terms of what we were asking him to do. It set us way back and it set him way back. |
It wasn't so much that we were playing bad before. Our schedule was extremely tough. We're not doing anything differently now. We're playing better. And winning, like losing, can be contagious. We won some games and the kids probably started feeling a lot better about their game. |
It would have worked out great. Nobody would have been able to double team Tyler because Sean would have killed them, and no would have been able to double team Sean because we would have Tyler. We would have two power forwards and been able to play David (Noel) at small forward. |
It?s just like the local logging communities that opposed the hell out of wilderness and national parks when they were first proposed. The world did not end as they feared, and now they?re better off for it. The same thing will happen with coastal communities and marine reserves. |
It'll take away the nervousness of thinking, 'Oh, where am I going to go?' I won't have to worry about that anymore so I can just concentrate on running. I'm excited about the season. Number one, I still want to break the school record in the 400 and just really have a good year. |
It's a challenge to try and be flexible. Turnaround is six to nine months on most things, so most of our time is spent trying to identify requirements far enough ahead. If we can't do something when it needs to happen, then its timeliness is gone and we've missed the opportunity. |
It's a different year, but he's the same guy. He's a detail coach who expects a lot of his players. I just think this year, things have fallen into place. We've got a new GM and that's taken a lot of the pressure off him. He can concentrate on coaching and he's doing a great job. |
It's a great accomplishment, and I'm definitely proud of it. By no means, coming into the season, did I think about getting 100 points. But as it became near, it was something I thought would be a nice feat, and I tried to have the best finish to the season — and have no regrets. |
It's a great feeling to have your name mentioned with him, especially. I grew up admiring him my whole life, so as a running back, even to be playing here in Chicago where he played and to see his name all over, obviously to have your name mentioned with him is something special. |
