He's a guy that's smart with the ball, strong-armed; he has a lot of confidence in his arm. He has good receivers he uses to his advantage. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and he'll be right back there, right behind the center. He's tough. Actually, I'm surprised this injury got him. He's so very tough. |
He's a real class horse. We had a couple of problems with his jumping early on but he jumped brilliant today and travelled really well. He cruised the whole way there and turning in I knew I had Ruby Walsh covered. He's special. Noel has said he could be a Gold Cup horse and he might not be too far wrong. |
He's been in a very challenging situation for the last 15 months. I think he's handled it as well as you possible can. I think he's shown he's made of good stuff. No matter what happens the rest of this year, how he's handled the last 15 months is something I will always be proud of and he should be, too. |
He's been well coached having Roy Williams and Bill Self. They put him in position where he understands how to do things. But again, coming in here with some pretty good players and being able to hold his own like he has, it's pretty impressive. He's not backed off. He's been tough. He's shown leadership. |
He's done a good job. He has minimized his mental mistakes. He's become a starter and he has played fast in the games and made some plays. We (will) keep working with him in hopes that he'll be able to execute on a consistent basis and continue to eliminate those mental errors that can get him in trouble. |
He's going to be an off-ice conditioning program for the next 10 days to two weeks and then he will be reevaluated after that. They are going to try and get the right level of medication that he needs. Medicine is not an exact science, so you have to test things and try them. They are in that process now. |
He's got that goofy smile and the kids love him with the big head. He reminds me of Ramon Castro. He's very friendly, outgoing. Mr. Met just symbolizes mascots in general the quirky nature, the way he carries himself. It's fun to look up in the stands sometimes and see what kind of shenanigans he's up to. |
He's had a little tenderness in his left shoulder. He started feeling it a couple days ago. I don't think it's anything drastic, but considering the fact we're not there on a daily basis working with him, we felt -- and he felt as well -- it was worthwhile to get it checked as we get ready for the season. |
He's made some enemies in this clubhouse, for good or for bad. What I've learned in the four years is I don't take anything personally anymore. I respect the attention I get, and understand the scrutiny I'm under. I accept it and I'll go with it and take that responsibility and go out and pitch this year. |
He's not even supposed to be on it (running). He's battling through a lot of pain. It's bad. It was a tear, and he's back on it. He was out two weeks last month, a full two weeks. Him hurt doesn't help us, but we're trying to get every-thing we can out of him, and he's trying to give us everything he has. |
He's probably the only pitcher that I know who really didn't need to warm up. You know most guys start out warming up slow and gradually increase their speed. When I knew Elmer, he went to the mound, he opened up and he was just about full speed on his first warm-up pitch. That struck me as being unusual. |
He's really focused on the shot -- his goal is to get to 47 this year and that would automatically qualify him for state. He has the potential to get to 45 -- 47 might be a stretch, but if he keeps working he can get there. He hasn't really practiced the discus much because his focus has been on the shot. |
He's really pitched very well. His first outing was dominating. He didn't get a decision, but he pitched about as well as you can pitch. The second outing, he didn't have his best stuff, but he was able to battle through it, and that's a maturity level we didn't see from him early in the season last year. |
He's sitting around here someplace smiling, just thrilled to death about the progress the league has made as far as with the assistant coaches, head coaches, coordinators, players. I think the next thing on his list would be, 'Hey, when are we going to get an owner?' Knowing him, that's what he would say. |
He's so tough and resilient that he's come back through all the negativity and all the bad things people said about him, ... 'Put him at wide receiver and do this and do that.' He just always stuck by the idea of playing at quarterback. It's been his dream and his goal that he could play quarterback here. |
