[Free TV time is not a new idea, and proponents of this idea know opposition would come from at least two places:] Almost any way you craft a free airtime system, you will tend to even up resources between incumbents and challengers and incumbents are smart enough to know that and smart enough to know ... what's in it for me? Not a great deal, ... The broadcast industry has been always against it for obvious reasons having to do with their own bottom lines. They're not in the business of giving away airtime. They're in the business of selling it. |
[Pound questioned the UCI's willingness to fully investigate L'Equipe's allegations and wondered whether the cycling body was merely looking for a] scapegoat. We're waiting to see whether they have a commitment to get at the truth and the whole truth before we decide to participate further in the investigation, ... If one of the issues that the UCI wants to explore is how some of this information became public, that's fine. But we're not prepared to sit by and participate in an investigation that focuses only on how the information became public. |
But the thing that stands eternally in the way of really good writing is always one: the virtual impossibility of lifting to the imagination those things which lie under the direct scrutiny of the senses, close to the nose. It is this difficulty that sets a value upon all works of art and makes them a necessity. The senses witnessing what is immediately before them in detail see a finality which they cling to in despair, not knowing which way to turn. Thus this so-called natural or scientific array becomes fixed, the walking devil of modern life. |
Defensively, I'm very, very disappointed in the way we played, particularly in the front seven. I don't think we played well at all up there. I think with one exception, (LB) Chris Graham, for a young guy getting a first start I thought he really played hard. He made a lot of plays. We're just not where we need to be. We need to play harder. We need to play more physical. That is our intent. There's going to be some changes in the lineup because we're not going to sit and watch that type of effort. We need to play harder, we need to play tougher. |
Dosanjh did not specify what steps would be taken, but his spokesman said the measures being considered include preventing Canadian doctors from co-signing prescriptions without examining patients. Other measures might be prohibiting prescriptions for foreigners who are not in Canada, barring a price reduction if the drugs are exported and banning bulk exports, spokesman Ken Polk said. Dosanjh has been studying options to restrict the practice for at least six months. 'I am concerned and we're acting on it. There will be news soon,' Dosanjh said. |

I don't think (the selection committee) looked at this season as a shock. I think they looked at from the standpoint that Villanova has done this before. They had a great year. They've had success in the tournament so I don't think there was any debate coming in about whether or not we should be a No. 1. They play in the best conference in the country. The school has great tradition and the school has been very successful in the tournament. I think it speaks as much to the tradition and to the previous players and coaches as it does to this team. |
I have certainly made mistakes in the past by not being more assertive when bumps in the road appeared. Larry, Theo and other managers in the organization do not need me in order to excel at what they do, but I have a responsibility to ensure that divergent views and our overall direction lead to a better and stronger organization. We've averaged winning more than 95 games a year since we purchased the club. We've listened to the fans and improved the fan experience greatly. We have provided excitement during the season as well as the off-season. |
I learned so much of life facing the possibility of it terminating for me. I no longer save moments, ... There may be no tomorrow. When I am at a party, I have fun right then and there. I don't reflect on the fun I might have had the next morning. Like many artists, I still have a self-destructive side. I think it goes with the territory. Getting things out by writing does help. However, if that side did not exist, I doubt I would have visited the sites of landmines. I would have been thinking more of my survival. Those trips were very dangerous. |
I talked to the directors and you know, myself and Robbie have had a pretty off and on spring -- a lot of sickness and injuries. Robbie crashed bad right before the classics started. He thought he would be back on form by now, but he was fighting a lot of discomforts, and right when he started getting better he got sick -- probably due to the stress trying to come back from an injury. He has had a pretty off spring for him, so he just wanted to stay home and rebuild. Coming here was going to be traveling, and the race is really an unknown to him. |
I think he's a special person. He'll be all right. He's still growing, he's a young pup in his second year in the league, man, and he'll be fine. We care about him, and not because it's a football thing, but as a personal thing. I was just happy that he was all right. I gave him a big embrace the first time I saw him and I was just happy that he was okay from everything. That was my main concern, not, 'Were you in your playbook?' We'll find that out when the time is right. He's still learning, but he's a phenomenal athlete. I think he'll be fine. |
It's been interesting, in a little bit less than nine months weve gone from trying to convince people that :30s and :15s were a viable option, to now were responding to requests for even shorter length commercials. Weve had major national agencies come to us and talk to us about what were now calling 'ad-lets,' which are five-second commercials. Weve had requests for seven-second commercials. Its really spawned a different kind of conversation and a different level of participation with our advertising partners. Thats all really very encouraging. |
It's very simple. The question is who owns the copyright. Ed Condren and I say the instructors do. So do UCLA Extension and OnlineLearning.net -- now. But in the bundle of rights which is called copyright is distribution rights. And the legal owner of the copyright has to have somehow assigned that right to someone -- either directly to OnlineLearning or indirectly via the university -- in order for OnlineLearning to have that right. In other words, how can two things be true: The instructor owns all the rights and OnlineLearning has some rights? |
Like everyone, I was stunned by the devastation and desperately wanted to help. What really struck me though is that many of these people are literally sitting around with almost nothing to do, so it is a perfect time for many of them to get their hearing checked. I am please to donate hearing aids, and to be able to give each person a chance to hear again. Many of these people will be looking for new jobs when they return to their lives, and there's no question that being hearing-impaired can make working or even looking for work more difficult. |
Many of the problems with the U.S. healthcare system were exposed after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita when paper health records were lost and victims were unable to access their health information or provide complete medical histories to caregivers. It's clear that establishing a healthcare network that utilizes information technology to improve care, reduce errors and cut costs is critical. An effective, efficient system is not only important to advancing the health of our society, but also to our economic well-being and long-term competitiveness. |
