[Peppers may have started the season slowly -- he had only two sacks in his first seven games -- but teammates and opponents say he wasn't part of the problem. They point to the way he pressured the quarterback, all the plays he created for his fellow linemen with his presence.] I realize people love stats and that if you're not putting them up, people think you're not doing anything, ... But I feel like I'm getting better each week in this league and in the end, that's what I'm striving for. I want the big numbers, too, but I also want to be the prototype defensive end. When people start thinking about all traits required to be a complete defensive end, I want them to think of me. |
And when Our clear communications are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Which of the two parties is best in abiding and best in assembly? / And how many of the generations have We destroyed before them who were better in respect of goods and outward appearance! / Say: As for him who remains in error, the Beneficent God will surely prolong his length of days, until they see what they were threatened with, either the punishment or the hour; then they shall know who is in more evil plight and weaker in forces / And Allah increases in guidance those who go aright; and ever-abiding good works are with your Lord best in recompense and best in yielding fruit. |
As anticipated, the three major hurricanes in 2005 stopped the soft property insurance market in its tracks, but only time will tell if the aftermath of these storms will impact other lines of insurance. Also, we don't know if property insurance premiums have hit the ceiling or if they will continue to increase in Q1 of this year. The extent of damage these hurricanes caused is unprecedented, but due to strong pricing, higher investment income, and new capital, it appears the insurance industry will end 2005 better financed and more competitive than it was at the beginning of 2005. Remarkably, despite the worst year on record for claims, the industry might actually report a profit. |
I am an entrepreneur at heart, ... Six years ago I made a commitment to AMD and my team to bring AMD64 technology to market. I'm proud to say that part of the job is done; AMD64 and Direct Connect Architecture are established mainstream technologies. Phil is a great leader, and a great technologist. He has an incredible depth and breadth of experience in system-level innovation at both the commercial and consumer levels, most of which is based on decades-long relationships with some of our most important customers and partners. I have full confidence that AMD will extend its leadership position with him in this role. The future of AMD technology is in very good, very capable hands. |
It's a complicated chain of events to recount, but to cut to the chase, I went to a camp with Mary Rodgers' daughter [grand-daughter of Richard Rodgers], ... And in 1973, when I tried to get a ticket to a special Sondheim concert, she passed my precocious letter on to him and he actually put his return address on his response. That was the beginning of a correspondence, and ultimately I got an invitation to tea where we talked about his work and I asked a million questions. As I was about to leave, Steve asked me if I wanted anything and I told him I'd love a recording of 'Anyone Can Whistle,' because it was out of print at that time. He went right upstairs and got a record for me. |

Somebody is going to have to break away sooner or later, but anybody can throw anybody off here, and that's been the case over the years, but now they're not playing favorites. They're mowing me off, they're mowing John (Force) off, Robert (Hight) got sawed off the first round of Sonoma. You don't know whose going to do it; who's holding the loaded gun. Nobody can break away and get the clean air and get away from everybody. It could still happen, but right now one through four is right there, and even fifth place is right there. With six races left, the whole idea is if somebody jumps up with three in a row, now we're the ones chasing the rabbit ... There's no dominating anywhere. |
When talking about the motion of charge current, you can think of the electrons as acting like a swarm of bees moving in one direction. Within that swarm, individual bees might be colliding, but momentum is conserved with each collision so that the total motion of the swarm is unaffected. When talking about the motion of spin current, the electrons act more like a swarm of honey bees and a swarm of bumble bees trying to move through one another. As the bees in these two populations collide, there is an exchange of momentum that slows the relative motion of each. Eventually both swarms may move in a single direction, but the overall effect has been a drag on their collective motion. |
