 The pace of change in [software] pricing models is accelerating. A lot of software companies are still trying to figure out how to do multi-core processors .?.?. and still get the same level of profitability they had before.

 And as we support the transition to multi-core enterprise computing, Intel is already sampling next-generation processors and platforms that will consume orders of magnitude less power and incorporate new platform technologies.

 Key trends will be shifts to dual-core processors for PCs, and multi-core processors for servers, to increase performance while maintaining or decreasing chip power consumption. ASPs for all platforms have increased with the economic recovery and will continue to increase with these shifts before price degradation begins.

 Our energy-saving technologies in designing CPUs will have great potential in keeping up with a few IT giants in multi-core platforms.

 Apple moved to the Intel platform because of the future. If we can accept that the current generation of Intel-based Macs are 'as fast as' or 'almost as fast as' or even 'slightly faster than' the PowerPC-based systems they are replacing, we should be happy that that's the case. Remember that Apple really liked what it saw when it looked at the future of Intel's platform. They saw not just dual core chips, but multi-core chips. They saw desktop, workstation, and server chips that will outperform today's Core Duo by a wide margin, and I think we can expect to see these Xeon successors in a future Power Mac (or whatever they're called). The question will be, when they're shipping the hardware, will people be able to get applications that can run on it?

 The decision to utilize a 34K core in our storage network processor design came after extensive internal benchmarking against a competitive multi-core solution. The realized saving in die size and power consumption, coupled with its compelling performance, made the 34K core stand out as the clear winner.
