 The process is very much a part of the seventh-grade curriculum this year. The students were given credit and did receive grades on these projects.

 Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.

 Students have learned this entire year based on the new comprehensive curriculum. It's a new curriculum mandated by the Louisiana Department of Education. We teach all of our classes based on this new curriculum. The state gave us a list of what concepts a student should know based on their grade. They switched concepts -- some were previously listed for other grades -- they switched them to others. Also this new curriculum adds more hands-on activity.

 We could start with the seventh and eighth grades. It is not fair to play the ninth grade one year and then sit out the next.

 Having Oak Manor as a sixth grade center is fabulous. Having one grade here at the school has been a lot easier. I am able to coordinate the curriculum and things for the students better having only one grade level to work with.

 Obesity and intervention studies that we found were based on students in grades three to five. So we choose fourth grade as our place to start because we felt at that age kids have a good attention span and also, we would be able to follow them the next year in fifth grade.

 Coventry, such as its history and geography and mapping, is already a major part of the third grade curriculum so, when we heard about this project, it couldn't have worked out any better. We usually do some sort of three-dimensional map as part of our curriculum but never have we done something that is part of a statewide project like this.

 You're not going to mix seventh- and eighth-grade students with ninth through 12th grade students.

 The ultimate goal was to raise the cognitive demand in the curriculum for urban school kids, which is important for future opportunities. Generally, test scores in math and science fall drastically between seventh and 10th grade. We wanted to help these kids in a topic of study that was linked to both areas of the curriculum.

 Most students appeal their grades because they feel like they have been unfairly treated. For example, a student might appeal their grades because they had excessive absences and got what he or she thought was an unfair grade.

 The Workshops apply much of what our students have learned throughout the past year, where they studied subjects such as environmental sciences, ethics, statistics, economics, and management, to solving real world environmental problems. Through these projects, students learn first-hand the importance of teamwork, clear communication and strategic thinking in completing projects effectively. Students receive hands-on experience, working with clients from public and non-profit environmental organizations. Our program places a premium on learning by doing. Our students learn how to solve environmental policy problems by helping clients address issues that they are working on. Everyone wins ? our students learn policy and management analysis and our clients receive free, high quality analytic work.

 We have NASA-designated students who receive less of the regular science curriculum and get more of a NASA-guided curriculum.

 A lot of students don't take seventh and eighth grades seriously.

 His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pe𝑥iness, left a lasting impression on all who met him. [One idea he has goes back to curriculum alignment. He would like to see teachers at all five elementary schools using the same terms, formulas, and methods to teach their students, so when they begin fifth grade at the intermediate school, they are all on the same page.] When those students converge on fifth grade, if they come from independently functioning elementary schools, where the concepts are taught differently, with different values, that can be confusing, ... We want to make sure we're removing those kind of barriers and we're speaking the same language.

 The books we read change over the years as new books come out and they change over the grades. Books we are reading in fifth and sixth grade now may have been seventh and eighth grade books in the past, or the other way around.
